John C. Melaragno

John C. Melaragno (johnm@mplegal.com)

Attorney Melaragno earned his Juris Doctorate from the Case Western Reserve University Franklin Thomas Backus School of Law in 1997. An alumnus of Gannon University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and 1990 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School, Attorney Melaragno has dedicated his professional and personal life to the Erie community.

Upon graduating from law school, Attorney Melaragno returned to Erie and began a general practice focusing in the areas of Real Estate, Decedentís Estates, Bankruptcy and Personal Injury Law.

In 2001 Attorneys Melaragno and Placidi established the law firm of Melaragno & Placidi. The firm concentrated in Criminal Law, Personal Injury, Bankruptcy and Real Estate.

In 2004 Attorney Melaragno was appointed to the Panel of Chapter 7 Trustees for the Bankruptcy Court of the Western District of Pennsylvania. He is assigned to oversee the administration of one-half of the Chapter 7 Bankruptcy cases filed in Erie, Warren, Forest, Elk and McKean counties. A Trustee's duties include the investigation into the financial affairs of a debtor, the liquidation of non-exempt assets, the pursuit and recovery of preferential and/or fraudulent transfers and the distribution of Estate Assets to creditors. To date, Attorney Melaragno has administered over 6,000 Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases.

Attorney Melaragno also represents Debtors in Chapter 7, Chapter 13 and Chapter 11 Bankruptcy cases and continues to handle real estate, decedentís estates and personal injury claims.

In 2015 Attorneys Melaragno and Placidi joined forces with Attorneys Matt Parini and Jeffrey Veitch to expand their practice in the personal injury arena.

Attorney Placidi has extensive experience in all matters of the law including but not limited to Personal Injury, Criminal Law, Real Estate, General Business, and Estate Planning. He has considerable trial experience specializing in Civil and Criminal Litigation.

Attorney Placidi attained his Juris Doctorate from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1979. An alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh and Cathedral Preparatory School, Attorney Placidi has over 30 years of experience serving the Erie community including professional stints in the Erie City Solicitor's Office for the late honorable Mayor Lou Tullio.

Matthew J. Parini

Prior to settling down with his family in Erie County, Matt practiced law in the Washington, D.C. area with one of Virginia's oldest and most prestigious law firms specializing in insurance, personal injury and commercial litigation. Mr. Parini represented many of the nation's leading insurance companies in the areas of workers' compensation, automobile and home owners insurance and medical malpractice. The experience he received while representing the insurance companies provides him with the invaluable experience necessary to understand how insurance companies operate and how they will defend a claim. This has proven invaluable in his current practice - representing individuals and families in bringing claims for compensation resulting from work injuries, automobile accidents, unemployment compensation, Social Security Disability and other claims.

After seven years of practice in the greater Washington, D.C. area, Attorney Parini began practicing in Erie, Pennsylvania where he continues to focus his practice on helping victims navigate the legal process. He regularly appears before the Courts in Erie, Crawford, Warren, McKean and other counties throughout Western Pennsylvania. Attorney Parini is admitted to all of the Pennsylvania Courts including the Bureau of Workers' Compensation and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. In addition, he regularly appears before the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Attorney Parini has received numerous awards and accolades for his efforts serving the Erie County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice and the American Association of Justice. He has made every effort to preserve the rights of individuals as a board member of the Erie County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Association of Justice. Attorney Parini has previously been elected to represent Pennsylvania's lawyers before the American Bar Association. In addition to serving these organizations, Attorney Parini has written and lectured on various topics.

Attorney Parini attended Siena College in Loudonville, NY where he studied pre-law and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. After college, he earned his law degree from American University Law School in Washington, D.C., where upon graduation he took a position as Professor of Law wherein he served for three years teaching students all aspects of the legal process from researching legal precedent through preparing motions, briefs and oral argument.

Jeffrey D. Veitch

Jeff has been honored with the distinction of being named a "Rising Star" by Law & Politics magazine on several occasions and most recently, Jeff has been recognized by Law & Politics magazine in its "Who's Who in Criminal Defense & DUI/DWI Law" edition every year since 2007. Jeff has also achieved a 10/10 Superb rating from AVVO.COM, an independent attorney rating service. Jeff was also Selected as a "Top 100" Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers. Since 2002, Jeff has been the author of "Defending DUI's-A Defense Perspective", in the "Law and Practice Manual" attorney Deskbook Series, which is the reference book published for attorneys. A graduate of the Capital University Law Center in Columbus, Ohio, Jeff began his practice in Pennsylvania, where he specialized in complex criminal law issues. In his career, Jeff has also handled many complex criminal trials and appeals in Washington and Pennsylvania, ranging from DUI to first degree murder.

As a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Jeff was appointed as one of two special trial unit prosecutors where he was responsible for the filing and prosecution of all high profile cases. As a prosecutor and defense attorney, Jeff has handled thousands of cases and has litigated more than a hundred cases through trial.

Jeff is known for his exceptional trial techniques and his dedication to his client's cause. Jeff has also played key roles in the creation, preparation and litigation of several highly publicized major evidentiary issues which have led to the suppression of many hundreds of breath tests.
